MCBS launches first American MBA program

The first batch of eighteen MBA students began their classes earlier in the day and later attended the official inauguration

 The Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) in partnership with Franklin University (Columbus, Ohio, USA) officially launched the first American MBA program in the Sultanate of Oman on January 28, 2012.

Franklin University’s president David Decker, Provost and vice president for Academic Affairs Christopher Washington, and Godfrey Mendes, Dean of Global Programs joined MCBS officials and a number of prestigious professionals from the Government and Private Sectors in Oman for the ceremony to celebrate the official start of this new program.

Dr. Muneer bin Mohammed AlMaskery, the founder and executive chairman of MCBS, welcomed everyone to this historic event and expressed his enthusasim about this new program. Dr. Richard J. Schmierer, ambassador of the United States of America to the Sultanate of Oman officiated the ribbon cutting ceremony which was followed by a tour of the MBA facilities and a reception. “We are excited about the start of this new MBA program in Oman,” said Franklin University president David Decker. “This program allows Franklin, an institution known for its expertise in providing access to career- relevant education, to challenge students in Oman to leverage their strengths while increasing their ability to think expansively about how the world of commerce operates.”

Dr. Badr El Din A. Ibrahim, dean of MCBS said, “The comprehensive theory-to-practice curriculum emphasizes analytics, contemporary business communication skills, and social responsibility, allowing students to build a foundation of practical business strategies and adaptable management skills that are noticed and needed in the everchanging global marketplace.”

This is the first American MBA to be offered in the Sultanate of Oman. The course is designed to offer a flexible study program for contemporary graduates and aspiring professionals with busy schedules and will be delivered both online and on campus four evenings a week by exceptionally qualified lecturers from Franklin University and MCBS. The program is comprised of a general MBA, which covers ten courses and will take approximately one year to complete. Students interested in specializing in Finance or Human Resources will need to take three additional courses in the respective area.

Manal Said Al Busaidi, a student currently enrolled in the MBA program and a former student of MCBS who is working as an auditor for the Diwan of Royal Court said, “I chose to do my MBA at this college because having previously studied at MCBS I am aware of the exceptionally high level of quality education delivered here. Also this is the only College offering a specialization in Finance and Human Resources Management in the Sultanate of Oman.” Murthad Rashid Al-khamsi, also an MBA student said, “I believe this program will be very challenging, however it will help me to climb the career ladder and to also achieve my company’s goals. I see it as worthwhile investment in myself.”

The MCBS in the Sultanate of Oman is a private College accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education. It was established in 1996 and offers Associate and Bachelor Degrees, primarily in Business Administration and Computer Science. The Franklin MBA is the first graduate program offered by the college.

The Franklin University MBA program is offered internationally through agreements with institutions in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
