Circulation Services

All students and researchers are welcome to use the resources of MCBS Library. Faculty, staff, and students, may charge out material for home or office use. Most library material circulates; notable exceptions include reference materials, and periodicals.

A valid MCBS ID Card must be presented at the circulation counter to charge out material. The loss of book or other library material is the responsibility of the borrower. In the event of a lost or mutilated book or other materials, the borrower is responsible for the full cost involved in its replacement

Borrowers must abide by Library Circulation Policy even when they are away from MCBS for vacation, research, etc. In these situations borrowers must either return library materials before leaving or make arrangements for a responsible party to attend to their library business.

Loan Periods

Faculty : 90 days loan
Students : 20 days loan

Renewals

Materials can be renewed twice unless there is no demand or “HOLD REQUEST” by other users. Renewals may be made:

In person or by phone +968-24583534

For renewal, the borrower must provide both their MCBS ID card number and the item numbers of the material.

Returning Materials

Books may be returned on or before the due date to avoid overdue fines. Borrowers are responsible for material until the Library receives it. All borrowed material must be returned at the library desk only.

Overdue and Recall Fines

Borrowers are responsible for renewing or returning material on or before its due date. There is three days "grace periods" for overdue materials. Over due fines are 200 baizas per item per day from the due date for normal loans. Special charge may be granted for non-circulating material and are fined at a rate of R.O. 1 per day when overdue. All material is subject to recall if needed by another borrower. Recalled material that is not returned by the recall due date is subject to a 200 baizas per day fine. When an item is recalled, a recall notice is sent to the borrower indicating the new "recall" due date. Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy, failing to receive an overdue notice does not absolve a borrower from responsibility should they receive a bill or fine. Library users are responsible for maintaining accurate address information with MCBS. For normal loans an overdue notice is sent seven days past the due date and again 30 days past the due date. Overdue intervals vary for recalls, and other special loans.

Hold Request

Hold request can be submitted at the Circulation Desk for an item on loan to someone to be held upon its return. Requestors are notified when the requisite item is received and is held for five days to pick-up.

Reserves

Some library materials that are frequently used and need always to be available may be kept ‘ON RESERVE’ therefore can’t be checked out. The faculty members must fill a reserve slip earlier enough before the beginning of each semester. In addition, the department keeps lecture notes or other materials from the faculty to be kept available for the students.

Overnight Loan

Library materials placed on reserve by faculty members may be checked-out overnight, one hour before closing, and must be returned the next day within one hour of opening the library.
