Catherine has been at MCBS since 2012, teaching Academic Writing, Intercultural Communication, and Business Ethics. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Leeds, UK and began her career as an English teacher as a result of spending one year as an assistant teacher in Spain as part of her studies.
She subsequently completed a graduate diploma in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics at the University of Essex, UK, and then a Master of Education in English Language Teaching at the University of Manchester, UK. She has over 40 years’ teaching experience at Higher Education Institutions and Language schools in Oman, UK, Portugal, Spain and Mexico, developing courses and materials for a range of age groups, language levels, and needs.
She has been involved in exam preparation for IELTS and University of Cambridge English Language Examinations, as well as training examiners for them. For many years, Catherine has been a translator, proof reader, and editor of a broad spectrum of document types – from journal articles and instruction manuals to doctoral and Masters theses. She is an avid linguist, speaking Spanish and Portuguese fluently, although Arabic is proving a challenge. Her passion for working and living in multi-cultural contexts is reflected in her main academic interest, Intercultural Communication, and her love of travel.
