11 entries from 8 colleges all over the Sultanate participated in this year’s competition. Loai Abdulla Hamood Al Subhi from Nizwa College of Technology impressed the judges and the audience with his eloquence and technical skills and emerged victorious while Fatima Abdullah Al Mawaly of Shinas College of Technology and Abdullah Khalid Al Raisi from Modern College of Business and Science bagged the second and third prize prizes, respectively.
PATW is the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) presentation skills competition for students, recent graduates, apprentices and young professionals aged 18 to 30. Competitors are tasked to give a 10-minute presentation on a subject directly related with engineering and technology; and to answer questions relevant to the presentation for another 5 minutes. The event is mainly judge on presentation skills, although the topic should be appropriate to the intended audience of students and young professionals. The competition has 4 stages: the college level; the National Level; the Regional Level and the Global Level which will be held in London, United Kingdom in November 2019.
The winner in the Oman National Level is awarded certificate of participation, ₤300 cash prize, and a paid airfare and accommodation to the Regional Level Competition tentatively scheduled to be held in Greece in early August 2019.
The Oman National Level PATW 2019 was convened by Engr. Arnold N. Santos, IET Oman National Network coordinator and was hosted by the Modern College of Business and Science under the guidance its IEEE student branch counselor, Dr. Basant Kumar.
